From Case 15: Newborn Hypoglycemia (item 3) · straight from the book
Baby Boy Okafor, born to a mother with type 2 diabetes, has a low glucose at 2 hours old. Which explanation best fits the baby's low glucose?
Why: Mom's high glucose crossed the placenta, so the baby made extra insulin. At cord clamping the sugar supply stops but the insulin keeps working. Type 1 diabetes does not show up at birth.
